The Evergreen State Fairgrounds hosts many events year round that are of interest to those who call Monroe home. One upcoming event that is sure to be fun for the whole family is the Gold, Gem, and Mineral Show. Come on out on February 18 or 19 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to learn more about prospecting and shop for amazing gold, rocks, and gems. Take a look at prospecting equipment and learn how it works. Those in the industry can even do some shopping and learn what new equipment and techniques are out there. This would be a great place to bring the kids to open their eyes to how gold, rocks, and gems are extracted from the earth. They are also sure to be amazed at all of the shiny and beautiful pieces on display and for sale.

This show is put on by the Washington Prospectors Mining Association, which supports those interested in mining just as a weekend thing, part time, or as a bigger operation. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in prospecting and monthly meetings are held in Redmond, Tacoma, Mount Vernon, and Brewster. Take advantage of workshops and a newsletter that outlines local mining activities as well as a library with a vast collection of books and videos about mining, prospecting, and metal detecting. Also have access to more than 1665 acres of Association claims that are open for mining throughout Washington, Oregon, and California. Who knows how much gold or how many gems or rocks you will be able to take back to your Monroe home. An abundance of beautiful trail runs are available to those who live in Snohomish. One race that is very close by and coming up soon is the Lord Hill Trail Run. Lord Hill Park is a go to destination for trail runners, so it only makes sense that an event sanctioned by USA Track and Field would take place here. Choose from a distance of 5m, 10m, half-marathon, 20m, or 50k for this event taking place on February 19th, 2017. Runners will find a very well marked course with streamers and arrows at intersections. Most of the course is single track, with a small part being fire road.

Whether a runner or not, all who live in Snohomish are invited to this event. Come cheer on the runners as they start in the south parking lot. Volunteer to work at one of the aid stations that will be located every five miles along the course. Hand out water, Nuun, Clif product, fruit, cookies, crackers, pretzels, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to participants. There will also be hot vegetable soup, chili and many other tasty treats at the finish line. Anyone interested in participating should sign up online by midnight on February 17, 2017. Those wishing to sign up the day of the race may only do so if there is still room and will pay a significantly higher price. Find all of the details and register for the Lord Hill Trail Run. 

Celebrate love on Snohomish property this Valentine’s Day at The Hungry Pelican. An evening of fine dining combined with live music awaits couples struck by cupid’s arrow. Hosting a “Pay It Forward” Dinner and Show Event, the Hungry Pelican features a three course gourmet feast from 7 to 10 p.m. on February 14th.

Delicious appetizers tempt taste buds as they start off the meal. Once the mood is set get ready for a scrumptious beef tenderloin main entree. No one does dessert like The Hungry Pelican, so be sure to save some room for decadence. Couples with specific dietary needs should contact the restaurant for alternative menu options. The Snohomish Running Company would like to invite all who reside in Monroe real estate to come and participate in or watch the 1st Annual My Heart Beats 5K. This race will be held on February 11th, 2017 at Evergreen Speedway. This unique running event will be happening from 5 p.m. until 9:45 p.m. with the main race starting at 6:30 p.m. That’s right, the race will take place in the dark, but that is alright because the lights of the speedway will be shining down on everyone participating and cheering on the runners. There will also be a kids 1K run beginning at 6 p.m. and a Beer Mile that includes four beers and a mile of running at 7:45 p.m.

This event is all about getting that heart beating while running, great music, and giving back to the community. There will be DJs all along the course playing various genres of music ranging from oldies, to dance favorites, to electronic. When there is no DJ in sight, never fear because music will also be playing over the Speedway PA system. Everyone is invited to stay and enjoy the post race concert as well starting at 7:45 p.m. It would be a good idea to register early, but if there are still spots available, people can register the day of the event. The proceeds of this event will go to the Monroe Boys and Girls Club to benefit many young people who live in Monroe real estate and the surrounding areas.
