Anyone interested in the Medieval period and immersing themselves in a historical reenactment of it should check out Ursulmas Medieval Fair. It will be held on Monroe property at Evergreen State Fairgrounds, from January 27th through the 29th. Members of the Society of Creative Anachronism will be in attendance, helping to create an authentically historic atmosphere. It’s a great event to attend if you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the SCA does and how to get involved. Watch the heavily armored combat, which are held in several different age categories. There are even weapons for the public to handle and experiment with, when the battlefield is not in use for an event.

Be sure to go see modern Monroe property transformed into a medieval village. The Village of Ursulwyck will be abuzz with activity. Watch craftspeople make the tools of everyday life, from wood carving to textiles. Head to the public house and watch the games that eventually evolved into our modern table games. It’s all about the youth on Friday, January 19, 2017. Youngsters are encouraged to learn with laughter during storytime. The Ready Readers Preschool Program blends fun stories with silly games and catchy songs. Held from 10 to 11 a.m. this twice weekly program will have kids excited about learning to read. Teenagers living in Lake Stevens can get crafty from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. By Hand: Upcycling, Crafting, and DIY at the Library is a monthly get together where kids can create. Supplies are provided by the library. January’s project is stylish mini notebooks.

Adults get into the action as well on Saturday, January 21st. For those interested in early childhood education the STARS Training Series: Books That Sing! is a must. Participants are taught how to influence children with song and other inspirations. The session runs from 9 to 11 a.m., and registration required online. Sky Valley Academy has much to offer all who call Monroe home. Gymnastics classes for all ages, team gymnastics, cheer opportunities, open gym play times, Ninja Warrior classes, and Parkour are all offered here. Classes are offered throughout the year and open gym times are on Mondays and Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30.m.. Parents can take advantage of the Parents Night Out every Friday night. From 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. parents can drop off their children ages 3-12 for activities and supervised play times throughout the night. The cost is $17 for the first child, $13 for the second child, and $10 for each additional child. Be sure to register early because space is limited each week.

Drift into the Evergreen State Fairgrounds this Saturday, January 7 for Open Drift, a thrilling bi-monthly Evergreen Drift event where amateur drivers who live in Monroe can race around the special track designed for both new and experienced drifting enthusiasts. As long as you have a car and can pass the safety requirements and technical inspection, you’re good to go.

Up to 15,000 spectators gather twice a month to watch new and old drivers race around specially designed concentric tracks. The tracks have been designed both for speed and safety, and drivers can hit triple-digit speeds on oval, drag and figure-eight courses.

Want a little more experience before you drift for yourself? Many people curious about driving on the track volunteer at Evergreen’s bi-monthly events to become more familiar with car handling. The knowledgeable staff take your safety very seriously and are always willing to let you spend time with them before and after events to become more comfortable with drifting culture and the technical aspects of racing.

Willis D. Tucker Community Park offers residents the chance to get some fresh air and have some fun away from their Snohomish real estate. Teens and tweens aged ten and up are invited to the library on December 29, 2016 for Minecraft Build Challenge.
