Stories are unfolding on Monroe property at Main Street Books. Signed and rare books have a place on the counter next to current best sellers and timeless treasures. A variety of non-fictional volumes and extraordinary works of fiction are waiting to be read. Second hand selections are offered at amazing prices. Paperbacks are usually half the cover price and hardbacks are less than $4. Books for the kids range from $1 to half the cover price. Local readers receive store credit for their excess editions. Books are also sold on consignment. Area charities in need of literature may place a request with Main St. Books. At times the shelves get too full and need to be thinned out. As a result, donation requests are enthusiastically honored.
There is always something in the works at the bookstore. Children flock to this Monroe property the first Saturday of each month for Storytime. Ms. Kathy welcomes all with open arms from 11 a.m. and brings favorite and new tales to life. Songs will be sung and crafts created. Young attendants often choose a book to bring home as well. A frequent reader program encourages readers 17 and younger. In partnership with Sahara Pizza, readers fill out a Book Bingo Card where reading nine books equals an 8” pizza. Aspiring writers join together to offer each other support. Main St. Books provides a constructive space for Wednesday Writers from 7 to 9 p.m. for like minded souls.
