Go to Ursulmas on Monroe property.Anyone interested in the Medieval period and immersing themselves in a historical reenactment of it should check out Ursulmas Medieval Fair. It will be held on Monroe property at Evergreen State Fairgrounds, from January 27th through the 29th. Members of the Society of Creative Anachronism will be in attendance, helping to create an authentically historic atmosphere. It’s a great event to attend if you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the SCA does and how to get involved. Watch the heavily armored combat, which are held in several different age categories. There are even weapons for the public to handle and experiment with, when the battlefield is not in use for an event.

Be sure to go see modern Monroe property transformed into a medieval village. The Village of Ursulwyck will be abuzz with activity. Watch craftspeople make the tools of everyday life, from wood carving to textiles. Head to the public house and watch the games that eventually evolved into our modern table games. Standard chess, Byzantine chess, and alquerque, from which checkers developed, and many more games will be in play. To get really into the day, consider borrowing some medieval clothing from the chatelaine, who acts as the guide for newcomers.

Visit Ursulmas to learn more about the events and competitions and to see general public and SCA member open hours.
