Everything kicks off with the Davis Amusement Carnival that starts at 5 p.m. on Wednesday the 18th at Harvey Field. The Seattle area is known for its amazing and diverse beer culture. However, if you live in Monroe, you don’t have to go far to find a wide array of craft brews. Beer aficionados who live in Monroe should do themselves a favor and head to Twin Rivers Brewery as soon as possible. You might have been to the next door restaurant, Adam’s Bistro. When owner Adam Hoffman bought the property for his bistro, there was also a small brewery. Adam studied with the previous owner, Tim Kovach, for several months until he was ready to start experimenting on his own.

Over the next few years, he worked diligently, trying out different recipes, working out the best hops and grains to use, and getting state of the art equipment. At first, the new little brewery turned out only four barrels a month. The beer was so good that Twin Rivers rapidly upped production to 16 barrels a month. The brewery has continued to increase production and now has a half dozen brews consistently available. Twin Rivers continues to experiment, creating a dozen seasonal brews that pair perfectly with the changing menu at Adam’s Bistro.

One of the best ways to sample Twin Rivers craft brews is to order a beer flight. This includes four different beers, with a five ounce serving of each one. Pints are also available, as are growlers. Enjoy everything Twin Rivers has to offer by joining the Mug Club. The membership fee is $35 per year. Tuesday, July 10th, children ages 3-11 are invited with their caregiver from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to attend Family Storytime: Ultimate Building. Come to hear books about engineering to get minds and imaginations going. Then have the chance to use different building materials to create some awesome structures inspired by the stories.

Thursday, July 12th, there are two events going on that are part of the Explore Summer Program. The first is for elementary early learners from 11 a.m. to noon and is called Animals and Sound. Presented by the Pacific Science Center, children will be able to explore how animals make sounds and use them to communicate and find their way around. Madagascar hissing cockroaches will be on site to dazzle the children. Registration is required. The second event this day is for middle tweens and teens ages 10 to 18 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and is called Hand-Bound Planners and Journals. There will be plenty of blank and pre-designed pages available for those in attendance to make their own hand-bound planners and journals. Registration is required for this event as well.

Saturday, July 14th there is an opportunity to come for Reading with Rover. This very popular event will take place from 11 a.m. to noon. Children are invited to build confidence and improve reading skills while reading aloud to a loveable canine. All skateboarders from Monroe real estate are invited to participate in or come watch the Sk8 Lake Tye: Skateboard/Longboard Races. This event will take place on Sunday, July 1st, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Tye in Monroe. The address is 14964 Fryelands Blvd. This may sound unique, and it truly is because this it the first skate race of its kind. All ages are welcome to participate and there will be several events going on. Choose your signature event or give all three a whirl. The 200 meter heat dash, 1.5 mile, and 3 mile will be available. A $1000 prize purse will be up for grabs. All boarders are invited to show off their speed and skills.

This race is sanctioned by the Skate International Distance and Supercross Association (IDSA). Anyone racing is encouraged to purchase a membership to the IDSA. The cost is $15 for a one-day membership or $20 for a one-year membership. There are many benefits available to members and it can really open doors to anyone who is serious about the sport.

This will be a really fun day for all attendees. Not only will there be the races, but also gear giveaways, tasty food, music, and vendors. Anyone who would like to participate in the races can visit the Facebook page to find a link to register. The 200 meter sprint will take place at 10 a.m. The cost to participate is $8 for those 13 and under or over 60, and $10 for everyone in between. The 1.5 mile race will take place at 1 p.m. and the cost is $10 for those 13 and under or over 60 and $15 for everyone else. The 3 mile race will start at 2:30 p.m. and the cost is the same as the 1.5 mile race. The price to participate in all 3 races is $25 for those 13 and under or over 60 and $30 for general admission. There a several personalized training programs available as well as care options such as dog walking and drop in visits. Get started right away with training for your new puppy. Other options for training include private lessons and day training. Private lessons can be geared toward basic obedience or to get rid of a problem behavior.
