There are many opportunities to enjoy the gorgeous scenery near Lake Stevens properties. Go for a hike, go for a drive, or even go for a boat ride. It is a true treat to be out on the water. Many people who live in Lake Stevens properties own a boat, but not everyone knows that anyone who operates a vessel or personal watercraft and was born after January 1st, 1955 needs to obtain a Washington State Boater Education Card. A person may operate a boat as long as they are being supervised by an adult with a Boater Education Card. Anyone who purchases a boat has 60 days from the date of purchase to get a card. Just be sure to have your bill of sale or vessel registration document with you as proof of date of purchase. Also note that cards issued by other states are recognized in Washington and once you get the Washington State Boater Education Card, it will be recognized in other states and Canada as well.

Luckily, there is a free class coming up that fulfills the requirements needed to get a Washington State Boater Education Card. This class will take place on Saturday, April 13th 2019 and will be taught by the Lake Stevens Police Department Boating Safety Officers. The class is called Adventures in Boating and will include a book and test materials. All participants must pass the written test and then pay a $10 Washington State fee for the card. The class is limited to 30 participants, so call 425.334.9537 as soon as possible to sign up. The class will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lake Stevens Educational Service Center. 

Get out to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery near your Snohomish real estate at Flowing Lake Park at Leckie’s Beach. As the weather gets warmer, keep this park on your radar. Available for day use, or to come and camp, Flowing Lake Park at Leckie’s Beach has much to offer. There is a boat launch, picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, cabins, and campsites. If coming out in the summer, watch for ranger led programs in the amphitheater and guided nature walks. The campground contains more than 40 campsites, most of which do include water and electric hookups. Camping fees include parking as well as boat launch fees.

Note that park hours for day use are 7 a.m. until dusk. Be sure to stop at the park entrance to purchase a daily permit. This must be displayed in your vehicle. This is a popular spot to cool off in the summer, so come early or carpool with friends from your Snohomish real estate if possible, as parking space is limited. Consider purchasing an annual pass if you plan to visit Snohomish County Parks often.

Flowing Lake is in the middle of a group of three lakes that also includes Storm Lake and Panther Lake. Explore the 132.5 acres of the lake, which has an average depth of 28 feet, in a variety of allowed watercraft. There are not many lakes in Snohomish County that allow motorized watercraft and waterskiing, but this is one of them that does. There are two public access points that include boat launches. One is located within Flowing Park at Leckie’s Beach and is operated by Snohomish County and the other is on the southeast side of the lake and operated by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Float around in your motorized boat or in a canoe or kayak. Go fishing or try water skiing or stand up paddle boarding. Paper Control and Time Management for Families with Kids - Join professional organizer Monika Kristofferson to learn filing systems for all of those papers that make it into our Lake Stevens homes. Also learn how to reduce paper, how to effectively use a calendar, time management tips, and much more. The class fee is $20 and the class will take place on Thursday, April 25th, 2019 from 6 to 7 p.m. in ESC Conference Room.

Non-Competitive Co-ed Adult Volleyball with Kristie Carl - All abilities are welcome to come play. Games will be rally scoring and teams will be switched up every three games. Come out to the NLMS Gym on Tuesdays from April 9th through June 18th (with no class 5/28 or 6/4) from 7 to 9 p.m. The class fee is $25 of drop in for $5 per class.

Puppy Obedience with Kim Dailey (4-6 months) - Puppy and owner will learn beginning skills in obedience. All dogs must be up to date on shots. The class takes place in the LSMS Auxiliary Gym and the fee is $75. Choose from one of two sessions, Mondays April 8th through May 13th from 6 to 7 p.m. or Mondays May 20th through July 1st (no class 5/27) from 6 to 7 p.m.

The Snohomish Easter Parade is popular event for Snohomish property owners every year. In its 39th year, the 2019 parade will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 11 a.m. Expect the parade to last close to two hours and be great fun for the whole family. Line-up begins at 9:30 a.m. at First Street and Lincoln Avenue. Send one person to sign in and then get in place. Everyone should be ready to go at 10:45.

Spectators are invited to come early to line the streets and get a great spot. Watch the delight on children’s faces as they see marching bands, cheerleaders, characters, bunnies, floats, horses, emergency vehicles, and much more. Wear your Easter bonnets to the parade and look for some elaborately decorated hats in the parade. If you would like to show off your bonnet in the parade, all are welcome to ride on the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce float. Just come to the float, located at Cedar and First Street, no later than 10:45 the morning of the parade. Parents can certainly ride too or meet their children at the end of the parade at First Street and Avenue E.

When the parade comes to a close, head over to First Street and Avenue A, behind the judging booth, for the Easter Bonnet Contest. Who will win the awards and return to their Snohomish property with a prize? Prize or no prize this is a fun day that really brings the community together. Stick around downtown after the festivities to support local businesses by grabbing a bite to eat or doing a little shopping. Springtime in downtown Snohomish is truly beautiful. Join Sifu Jacque, who began exploring martial arts at age five, to learn more about these ancient arts. Sifu Jaque began with Judo and Karate and then found a traditional martial arts school in South Africa at age 12 to further his studies. He has studied under several masters and opened his first school in the United States in 1997. In 2013, he opened his school in Monroe with the goal of enriching lives and making the world a better place. The local library is a great resource for anyone living in Lake Stevens. It has a full schedule of recurring events, as well as fun special events for everyone from baby to adults. Little kids can join in a fun weekly story time on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Ready Readers Family Storytime is designed especially for toddlers and preschoolers, or kids from about 18 months through 4 years old. However, all children are welcome. Funny stories and action songs capture kids’ interest and lay a positive foundation for a future love of reading. The event finishes off with creative activities. Kid should be sure to bring their caregivers.

On Wednesdays, the youngest members of the family get their own story time at Ready Readers Baby & Me Storytime. Bring the little ones for a fun time with stories, songs, rhymes, and rhythm from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. After the planned activities, there is an unstructured playtime. On March 28th, preschoolers get the chance to explore science at the Little Science Lab, held at the library from 9:30 to 10 a.m. The 30-minute session features hands-on activities designed to help children understand the science all around them in the world. Registration is required.

Finally, mark your calendars and register now for the Birds of Prey event on Wednesday, April 3rd from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Staff from the Sarvey Wildlife Center will bring some of the most interesting birds living in Lake Stevens, including eagles, falcons, and owls to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Stevens. All ages are welcome at this special event, and younger children should have a caregiver with them.
