A full week of activities await all who call Lake Stevens home at the Lake Stevens Library from January 26th through January 29th. Just like every week, caregivers are invited to bring their children to the library for story time. Come on out on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. for Baby and Me Storytime where there will be stories, songs and rhymes for newborn babies through 18 months of age. Preschoolers ages 3-5 have the chance to come hear stories and participate in sing alongs and crafts from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Toddler storytime happens on Thursdays when children ages 18 months through 3 years can come get their wiggles out with interactive storytimes, songs, and crafts.

A special program is available to those who call Lake Stevens home on Friday. Thanks to the Pacific Science Center, robots are going to take over the library. Three different sessions of Radical Robots will be available to help children and their families learn about how robots can help us solve problems. Children will have the chance to become a real robot programmer. Choose from an 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 1:30 p.m. start time. The Lake Stevens Library is located at 1804 Main Street and is a wonderful asset to this community.

Each Janurary, America honors Dr. Martin Luther King, one of the pivotal leaders of the civil rights movement. If you live in Lake Stevens, you know how important salmon are to the local ecosystem and economy. On Saturday, January 9th, come out and support salmon recovery programs by swimming with them. Sound Salmon Solutions (SSS) is sponsoring this new community event. The $25 registration fee will be matched at $100 by an anonymous donor. The money raised will go to fund education programs, habitat restoration, and volunteer events. Participants will get a year’s membership in SSS, a mug, and hot beverages at the warming party after the plunge.

Come out to Lundeen Park at 10 a.m. ready to plunge in. Warm clothes over swimwear is recommended. The beach is gravel, so be prepared with shoes. Bring plenty of towels and blankets to warm up afterward. A changing area will be set up on the beach. After the plunge, be sure to stop in at the warm-up after party. It will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the SSS offices, located at 1911 Vernon Road in Lake Stevens.

If you’re thinking about working on your fitness in the new year, there are several exercise classes starting in January near Lake Stevens homes. Choose a favorite activity or learn something new. Co-ed non-competitive volleyball will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the North Lake Middle School gym. Games start on January 5th and go until March 31st. The cost is $25 to play once a week or $40 to play twice a week. Play co-ed basketball at Lake Stevens Middle School gym on Thursdays from 8 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $25, and the session goes from January 28th to March 24th.

Winter weather won’t prevent water aerobics classes at the indoor pool at Lake Stevens High School. There are several sessions to choose from, to accommodate schedules for everyone from Lake Stevens homes. Come out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. or Monday and Wednesday from 8 to 9 p.m. Do deep water aerobics on Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. The cost per session for adults is $4; $2.50 for seniors 55 and over; youth or disabled pay $3; and employees pay $1.75.

Winter break is a great time for those owning Snohomish homes and their children to spend some time at the pool. Come on out to the Snohomish Aquatic Center to let the kids get their wiggles out in a fun, warm, and safe place. There are several options available for some winter fun. Many open swim times are available for the whole family. Visit the pool any day except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day. The times vary each day, so look at the online schedule before planning a visit.

There is also information on the website for all owning Snohomish homes who would like to send their kids to Winter Camp at the Aquatic Center. The Youth Surf ‘N Splash Camp is open to children ages 8 to 14 and runs from Monday, December 28th through Wednesday, December 30th from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The fee for the camp is $135.00 per camper and includes 75 minutes of exclusive Flowrider? training followed by some time for recreational swim. Lunch is also provided. Participants will need to provide a waiver signed by a legal guardian, meet height and weight requirements, and should bring their suit, water, towels, and a lock. Be sure to register as soon as possible to grab a spot for some wonderful winter fun.
