Return to a bygone era while spending some time away from your Snohomish home and participating in the Snohomish Tweed Ride. This event will take place on Saturday, September 23rd from 10 a .m. until 2 p.m. Go back to when English families would put on their best clothes, make a picnic lunch, take the train with their bicycle to the countryside and then ride all the way home. The London Tweed Run has been a tremendous success and many other cities have followed suit, including Stockholm, Sao Paolo, and San Francisco. This is the third year that this ride has taken place in Snohomish. It is great fun, and who knows, maybe this will become a regular activity for your family.
There are several ticket options available and many ways to participate. Feel free to gather along the route to smile at all of the well dressed individuals on their bicycles. Come to participate in the picnic portion only for $15. Tea and tasty treats will be available. The Tweed rider ticket is also $15, which goes toward participation in the ride as well as lawn seating at the picnic. Lastly, there is a new “Blue Ribbon” ticket for $22, which includes participation in the ride, plus a spot at a table and personal tea service. The first 100 ticket holders will definitely receive swag, and all riders will get tea, treats, keepsakes, and entertainment.
Check in and registration begins at 10 a.m. at Snohomish Carnegie, located at 105 Cedar Avenue. Be sure to bring your Paypal receipt--this is your ticket. Children under five can ride for free, but will not get any swag. All proceeds from this fun event go to help the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association keep working on the task of revitalizing and beautifying downtown. The ride begins at 11 a.m. when riders will head toward the Centennial Trail. Feel free to stop for diversions on the way to Machias Trailhead Park, where there will be tea, a place to have your picnic, and many amusements between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Be ready for croquet, badminton, photo opportunities, music, and much more. There will be prizes for the best dressed ladies and gentlemen on bicycles, so have a great time putting together your costumes with family and friends. Head back to downtown Snohomish whenever you wish. The ride is an 11-mile round trip.
